St. Mary's Church in Madras ( Chennai) India

This is the oldest protestant church east of Suez, built in 1680 within the walls of Fort St. George which was then the headquarter for the East India Company in India.   Jackson Muspratt-Williams mentions this church several times in his diary and he preached here occasionally in 1831.  I visited the church to take these picture in July 2001 and the building is well looked after, and has many memorials inside which were already there in 1830.  They have very complete records of births, marriages and deaths from the early 18th century.
